For a lot of people (not all), a New Year signifies the chance to make changes, try something new and think about what things are truly important. Myself is included in that frame of mind and while I typically hate the phrase ‘ New Year Resolutions’, I always try and set some realistic and achievable personal goals.
For 2025, here is what I have in mind:
001) Theatre:
In 2024, I saw a lot of Theatre (41 different shows if you’re curious) and this is something I am most definitely wanting to continue into 2025. In addition, I would like to try and see many more smaller productions where I can.
002) Read 40 Books:
For the last few years, I have set myself a reading challenge on Goodreads. In 2024, it was 30 books which I completed (albeit cutting it very fine). So naturally, this year I decided to make it even harder for myself by increasing the books I read to 40. It is perfectly achievable with some effort on my part.
003) Return to Running:
In 2022, I ran a marathon (I’m still shocked even now that I did it) but due to injury, I haven’t run since. While I wasn’t always the biggest fan of running, I found that when I wasn’t allowed to do it, I weirdly missed it. So this year, I am planning to get back into it with absolutely no pressure to participate in a race (although there is one I am looking at).
004: Massive Declutter:
My house is pretty small and I have lived here for a long time which means I have a lot of stuff. With plans to sell it in the future (not remotely anytime soon), I don’t want to have to have a massive clear out further down the line. In addition, I generally now prefer spending my money on things to do (like theatre) rather than actual physical items.
005) Less doom scrolling:
I am notoriously bad for doom scrolling. I would even go as far to say that I need to break up with my phone. I waste so much time doing this and then wonder why I can’t get anything else done. So I want to do much less of this for 2025! Maybe every time I think of doom scrolling, perhaps I should pick up a book instead to help with my reading challenge?
006) Decorate Bathroom, Living Room & Bedroom:
I have been meaning to get these rooms done for a long time and it just keeps getting pushed back. So this year I would like to get all 3 completed to make my house even cosier…and sellable.
007) Dedicate time to Cybersecurity:
I have been working pretty hard the last couple of years to learn a lot about Cybersecurity and so this year, I would like to dedicate specific chunks of my free time to learn even more rather than learning when I need to. I also would like to dive much more into coding (Python to be precise)
008) Buy less physical books:
I’ve always loved buying physical copies of books (the smell of new books is one of my favourite smells), however, I do not realistically have the space to store them. My rule for a while has been that if it is a book I will read again, I can buy the physical copy. Anything else is either Kindle or borrowed from my local library (usually through Borrowbox). Even though I have had this rule in place for a while, I have found that towards the end of 2024, I was sneaking more physical books than I should have into the house.
009) Wake up earlier: I am absolutely awful at getting up in the morning – I never used to be. This year I would like to re-establish a morning routine where I get up when my alarm goes off rather than snoozing for an hour. First things first, need to go to bed slightly earlier without my phone.
010) Less convenience food: I rarely order a take away but I am notorious for taking the lazy cooking route like heating up pre made fridge soup or a packet of tortellini pasta. I can cook but I have became incredibly lazy and stick to the same few things all the time. I also hate doing dishes so anything that is one pan has been my max for a while. This year, I would like to get back to cooking a lot more and also mixing up what I am cooking each night.
What do you have in mind for yourself for 2025?
