If you saw my excited tweets last night/this morning, you may have gathered that I was doing Race for Life today. Race for Life, for those who don’t know, is a race for women where you can run,jog or walk and raise money for Cancer Research UK. I opted to walk, as I don’t run anywhere – not even for a bus. I took part with both my Mum and my friend, Heather.
The day began pretty early and Aberdeen had decided, for once, to bless us with some gorgeous sunshine. Nice weather is such a rarity in this part of Scotland – normally its wind/rain/hail/anything nasty the weatherman likes to throw at us. Weather aside, after meeting up at my flat, we took a short drive down to the beach, which was the venue for the event.
Upon arriving, it was a sea of pink. I think at this event, we were told that there was over 4000 women taking part – all shapes and sizes, kids, even some dogs. There was also a lot of people in fancy dress – including a couple of people in ‘morph suits’.
First things first, we had to attach our numbers and things:
Our little supporter (Alfie) doing his best Pirate impression:
We took part in the warm-up and then we were off:
Finally, despite not taking part in the race, this was Alfie after returning to my flat:
Completely zonked.
