The start of a brand New Year (whether actual New Year or an Academic Year) always brings a sense of a fresh start. Some people will make Resolutions while others will not. I am one of those people who fall into the making Resolutions side although mine tend to be specific things I want to do throughout the year. I figure if I have them written down, I am more likely to do them.
A few years ago, I used to write these posts and then revisit them every couple of months to check off what I have done. I also find it fun to see what I have done and achieved.
So what do I have in mind for 2020?
001) Read 52 books and record them on Goodreads:
In 2019 I managed to read 36 books which is probably the most I have read in a year since I was little. So for 2020, I thought I would take it even further with a book for each week.
002) Learn to braid hair fancy:
I can do a basic braid…but that is it. I am really bad at anything remotely connected to hair and as my hair is so long, I get sore arms.
003) Write out favourite go-to recipes into a book:
I love to cook and bake and I pull my recipes from a variety of sources. However, I never have them all in one place. When I find a new recipe I like and it works with no issues, it automatically becomes one that I refer to time and time again. I think currently I have about 10 recipes that need to be collated together.
004) Save ‘X’ amount:
I’m not someone who is bad at saving: I have systems in place. However, I always think there is a little more I could do – perhaps ditching those non-essential food purchases (Dairy Milk I am looking at you!)
005) Balmoral Cairn Walk:
Balmoral is absolutely beautiful – I have been in awe of the scenery ever since I did the Balmoral 10K. There is a beautiful walk called the Balmoral Cairns around the estate which has been on my list for a long time.
006) Do 5 Sustainable Swaps:
There is always something more I could be doing to better the environment so in 2020, I want to find 5 more swaps.
007) Visit a new place:
In 2019, I managed a few adventures: Aviemore, Edinburgh, North Coast 500, Glasgow & Amsterdam. This year, I want to do more. I currently have Berlin & Gdansk as potential ideas but perhaps some UK based ones too…
008) Bake 3 Breads:
I’ve made plenty of things over the years but the one thing I have never made much of by hand is bread. I think the only time I ever think of making bread is when I watch Bread Week in GBBO.
009) Decorate Bedroom:
As simple as it sounds.
010) Master Scones:
I can bake Cakes, Biscuits and other things…but Scones? Not a chance. They never work out so in 2020, I want to master the art of Scone making.
011) 366 Day Yoga Challenge:
Yoga is one of those things I know that I should be doing a lot more of…but I don’t. I enjoy a challenge so I’ve decided to attempt to do 366 days (leap year problems) of Yoga . I’m not sure if this will be a success or not…but I’m willing to give it a go.
012) Minimum of 4 blog posts a month:
I love writing blog posts much more than I enjoy posting on Insta. However, when my life gets busy, my blog suffers as a result and I can go weeks without a single post. 2020 – the time to rectify this.
013) Re-read Harry Potter series from start to finish:
This is a slightly odd one – I have read all of the Harry Potter books and seen all the films multiple times. However, I have never read the books one straight after the other. I have been saying for a while that I would do this…but never got around to it.
014) Make Portuguese Custard Tarts:
I love these perfect custardy tarts of goodness. So simple but so tasty! However, once again, it is something I’ve never attempted to make so I would like to try and make some of my own.
015) Visit V&A Museum, Dundee:
Aberdeen is not a million miles away from Dundee so really there is not a genuine reason for why I have not yet visited the museum.
016) Climb Bennachie:
I have resided in Aberdeen for 15 years and I’ve still not been up Bennachie. Every year I say I will do it and I never get around to it.
017) Show a bit more of myself:
I’m not suggesting exposing parts of myself (now that would get me arrested!) but more show myself a bit more on Social Media and in blog posts. I tend to prefer to be the person behind the camera rather than in front of it. I do the same with Instastories – if I’m talking, it is behind a camera.
018) Drive:
I passed my driving test over 10 years ago but due to Epilepsy, I wasn’t able to drive again until I was 1 year seizure free. 7 years have since passed seizure free but although I have gone through the process of reinstating my licence, I still haven’t actually driven. It probably doesn’t help that I don’t have a car as I don’t really need one residing slap bang in the middle of the city centre.
019) Keep on top of Emails:
I have more inboxes than the average person. Needless to say, unread emails build up as I have a terrible habit of reading only the important ones and doing nothing with the ones that are trying to offer me 20% off. I have started the process of unsubscribing from these and also deleting them as soon as they come in. That way, only the important ones remain and I can see clearly what I have.
020) Explore more with my photography:
Photography has always been a passion of mine since I was a child. Unfortunately, like most things I love, it has fallen by the wayside. I am definitely more of a film girl as I love the excitement of opening up a developed roll of film and seeing what you did and did not get.
What are your goals for 2020?
